My journey to starting Comox Valley Care Companion began after many years working in surgical booking at the hospital. During that time, I saw that some patients who were otherwise ready for elective surgery facing significant challenges because they didn't have adequate support at home. Without someone to help them recover safely after a general anaesthetic, some surgeries had to be postponed until circumstances changed, and in some cases, a person's condition worsened while they waited. Having also worked as a Health Care Assistant caring for patients after surgery, I understood how important those first few days of recovery are. I realized there was an opportunity to provide a service that could help bridge this gap for people who don't have family or friends nearby.
My goal is to help clients recover safely and comfortably at home while giving them confidence, dignity, and peace of mind. Throughout my career, I also discovered that I have a natural ability to connect with people living with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. I find great meaning in building trusting relationships, providing reassurance, and creating calm, supportive environments. I also understand the demands placed on family caregivers, which is why I offer in-home respite care to give caregivers the opportunity to rest, attend appointments, or simply take time for themselves while knowing their loved one is receiving compassionate, reliable care.
Comox Valley Care Companion was founded on the belief that no one should have to face surgery recovery or the challenges of aging alone. By providing personalized, one-on-one care, I help clients remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes while offering families the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved one is in trusted, caring, and experienced hands.
