2026-2027 Boost: The Comox Valley Hospice Society
The Comox Valley Women’s Business Network (CVWBN) is thrilled to announce that the Comox Valley Hospice Society (CVHS) is our 2026-2027 BOOST (Building Opportunities for Organizations Using Our Strengths & Talents) recipient.
The BOOST program supports a local non-profit each year by providing funds, skills, and talents that help fulfill their mission.
About the Comox Valley Hospice Society
Since 1983, the mission of the CVHS has been to help ease the journey of dying for those facing end-of-life and to provide psychosocial support and care for caregivers and loved ones who are grieving. In 2025, they served 1,205 unique individuals through 1:1 counselling, closed grief support groups, numerous volunteer-led conversation cafés, a home palliative/caregiver respite program, wellness care, and Advance Care Planning.
The CVHS is in the second year of a three-year grant in partnership with Foundry Comox Valley to support children and youth impacted by deaths due to the toxic drug supply. They have offered a Sudden Loss Grief Group and will be collaborating on a Queer Grief Group. They have also just completed an adapted advance care planning workshop for those with neurodivergent learning needs. These offerings have taken them beyond the traditional programs and services of the hospice society, and they are continuing to work towards being responsive to changing needs supported by inclusive practices and policies.
The Aitken Community Hospice (run by CVHS) is a six-bed residence owned and operated by Golden Life Management. The CVHS provides emotional, social and spiritual support within the hospice, as well as at the Comox Valley Hospital, and in the community, offering support wherever palliative individuals and their loved ones may be in the Comox Valley.
Their 11-member CVHS Board of Directors brings to the table a wealth of skills and experience to offer governance and fiduciary oversight. They have a small but mighty staff of 11 (most part-time), and over 70 active volunteers. These are the hearts of hospice. Through their work, mental health and well-being are supported by providing compassionate professional care and by offering a welcoming space for connectedness and companionship. They contribute to community education and awareness around the importance of normalizing the conversation around death, dying, and grieving, and support navigating available resources.
The CVHS offers services free of charge, ensuring equitable access to compassionate care. They rely on donations, bequests, grants, and fundraising for over 95% of their operating costs. It is the generosity of the community that has kept them thriving for 43 years.

How We Support The cVHS
The proceeds of our 50/50 draws (held at our monthly events) will be donated to the CVHS. In December we will donate requested items. We will also contribute volunteer hours throughout the year.
