We meet on the second Wednesday of each month (excluding July and August) to network, hear top caliber speakers and market our businesses.
Come join us!
Wednesday, January 13, 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.
at the Blackfin Pub (lower level), Comox, BC
Join us for an evening of networking, dinner and drawing fun as we learn to utilize a unique form of art therapy to reduce the stress in our lives with Certified Zentangle® Teacher, Barb Round.
What is Zentangle?
Zentangle was initially developed to make art accessible to anyone -- even those who think they are artistically challenged -- by introducing line-drawn pattern in easy-to-learn steps. Becoming engaged with drawing small patterns is very calming and has been recognized as a stress-relief outlet. This calm mindfulness has also been found helpful to children with ADHD, people in recovery from addictions, and mental health clients.
We can all use more calmness in our lives, so Zentangle is becoming increasing popular for people of all ages, from all walks of life.
Zentangle it is not complicated and requires no previous artistic skill. You learn to use simple, repetitive strokes with a pen to make complex-looking patterns. The process of making these marks, focusing on the art as it emerges from your pen, is very calming. Hence the ‘Zen’ part of the name.
One might wonder what us busy professional business women can learn from a retiree who teaches art part-time! Unless you knew what she retired from.
As a Registered Nurse, Barb pushed the limits in high-stress jobs, including Head Nurse, Community Educator and College Instructor. She concluded her career as Executive Director of the RN Association where she was COO, CFO, administrator, chief-cook-and-bottle-washer, dealing with policy and legislation, handling professional conduct matters, all while answering to a demanding Board of Directors.
And what was her stress relief outlet at that time? Barb is an avid quilter who finds her Zen behind a sewing machine. Trouble is, that requires time away from the office (and a sewing machine), which was not always easy to find with a family and a demanding job.
Finally, in retirement, Barb found Zentangle. It is the perfect, portable, fit-into-any-time-available stress reliever. In three years she has taught over 900 students on Vancouver Island and beyond, and will happily share some zen-art tips with you at our next WBN meeting ... before you retire.
